"Never shall I forget those flames which consumed my faith forever" (Wiesel 43).
The quote is explaining that what he had saw that day had made him loose faith. He's saying that if there is a god that is great then why hasn't this god come to save us. Why would someone so great, let so many people die? The flames did not literally consume his faith. I believe that this will foreshadow more questioning of his faith.
"I glanced at my father. How he had changed! His eyes had grown dim. I would have liked to speak to him, but I did not know what to say" (Wiesel 46).
This quote explains how he sees his father. This quote also shows a little bit on the relationship between the two. He wanted to talk to his father about everything that had been happening but he was afraid. He did not know how to put his feelings into words and he didn't know how to say it. This quote helps us see that the father is a dynastic character. This quote might foreshadow something to happen to the father to change their relationship even more.
